My childhood dream made reality!
Did you love making gingerbread houses as a kid? I always imagined what it would be like to be inside the house I built. Truth be told that as a child my mom would purchase cookies, crackers and candies that we would sloppily “glue” our edible decor onto cardboard with frosting. When my hubby and I got married we ambitiously rolled the dough and would bake our own houses from scratch.
This year I lazily purchased the adorable kits from Trader Joe’s. Whatever your tradition (or ambition level) may be, gingerbread house construction is magical. The team at Stella San Jac harnessed the true spirit of Christmas by combining childlike whimsy and charitable giving.
The Westin Austin Downtown's hotel lobby houses a gingerbread house big enough to dine inside! The table is large enough to seat 7 people and serves as an extension of hotel restaurant, Stella San Jac. 10% of all food and beverage sales are donated to Back on My Feet Austin. Reservations to dine in this attraction can be made here. The staff also captures a Polaroid photo of you turned it into Christmas ornament to take home as a souveneir.
Our service was impeccable! The server was attentive, personable and well versed on the restaurant menu. He made a few recommendations complete with preperation notes and flavor profiles. I ended up ordering (after toying with so many mouth watering options) the Fried Avocado Salad with grilled shrimp added. Stella San Jac makes their own Cholula Ranch dressing in house that was the perfect balance of sweet and heat.My daughter ordered the Chicken Quesadilla that came with black beans and rice. She loved my Cholula Ranch dressing so much that she used it to dunk her quesadilla triangles!
I would urge anyone with a young child, niece, nephew, grandchild or youthful spirit to make your resveration for this unique dining experience immediately! We left The Westin Austin Downtown with our hearts and bellies full!
